I like food, drink, and good music.

Epic Beer haul! I grabbed a couple cases of Moo-Hoo along with a random assortment of classics including Yeti, Ten Fidy, Founders Breakfast Stout and Backwoods Bastard, Sculpin, and Bell’s Expedition Stout. I also grabbed a few ransoms including Terrapin Oaked Big Hoppy Monster, Boulevard’s Rye on Rye, and Element’s Winter Ion. There are a few more but you get the general idea.

Samuel Smith - Oatmeal Stout

This is THE beer that got me into craft beer. I haven’t had one in over ten years. It is smooth and chocolatey just like I remember it. Now that it’s available locally I will be keeping these on hand year round.

New Belgium & Alpine Beer Company (collaboration) - Lips of Faith Series: Super India Pale Ale

Super IPA is right! It’s as if Pliny and Sculpin had sex and gave birth to an Imperial baby. And that’s all I should have to say.

Southern Tier - Crème Brûlée Imperial Stout

For when you want to not only drink your dessert but get drunk from it too.

Terrapin- Hopzilla

And just like that I come to the realization that I don’t care as much for double IPAs as I once did.

Flying Dog - Pearl Necklace

This is my first oyster stout. It is actually brewed with Rappahannock River oysters. Can’t say that they add anything to the character of the beer. It is damn fine and full of flavor. Lots of wood and leather notes. Very tasty.

Well Good People was a major let down. They must be the kings of mediocre beer. Their IPA will rip a layer of tastebuds right off your tongue. Snake Handler isn’t nearly as bad, but isn’t that good either. The Brown Ale(super original name) is exactly as its labelled. Standard bown ale. nothing special and nothing original. Their Coffee Oatmeal Stout was the best thing they offer and it is about as generic as a coffee oatmeal stout can get. I guess it stands to reason, if you don’t have the originality to come up with nondescriptive names for your beer, then you probably are in the wrong business. Avondale brewery on the other hand has it going on. Their Vanillaphant porter is outstanding, and I only wish I could get their No Joka Mocha coffee oatmeal stout year round. And the winner of the day goes to Avondale’s Battlefield IPA. Solid fucking beer, perfectly balanced light malt body and great hoppy aroma. Very drinkable.

The Alchemist - Heady Topper

This one came curtesy of Runeybadger. I honestly have to say this is now one of my official Top 5 IPAs. It might even be in the top 3.It helps that I’m a total sucker for beer out of a can. Heady Topper is a very fruity west coast style IPA with almost a Mountain Dew mixed with grapefruit like quality.

CHURCHKEY!!!

Pilsner is definitely not my favorite type of beer. But, on a hot southern day nothing can beat a good cold pilsner. This is one of the best I’ve ever had. If I had access to these regularly I could definitely see this becoming by go-to summer beer.

Hoppin’ Frog - D.O.R.I.S. the Destroyer

This Double Oatmeal Russian Imperial Stout is serious business. It’s thicker than motor oil and has enough alcohol in it to run your car(even though it is undetectable). It makes for a great after dinner beer, it’s so rich and creamy. So good.

Dogfish Head - Positive Contact

Yet another “meh” offering from the creative minds at Dogfish Head. They are always hit or miss, but lately it’s been mostly misses. This is basically a witbier with a slight apple bite and a odd mix of spices including cayenne and cilantro.
